Required Plug Strength for Continuously Poured Cemented Paste Backfill in Longhole Stopes

نویسندگان

چکیده

Continuously poured paste backfill dramatically improves underground mining efficiency through reduced stope cycle time and simplified logistics. For longhole stopes, a “plug” is to few meters above the undercut brow must gain sufficient strength prevent failure plug when “main” pour begins. A novel, rational engineering design approach that determines required developed. The potential mechanism during continuous pouring identified theoretical solution its numerical validation/calibration are discussed. Four field case histories then used, three of them involving pours, demonstrate solution’s validity in back-analysis. These studies unique extent quality total stress water pressure measurements made throughout backfilling. Additionally, comprehensive laboratory data available characterize development binder hydration first days, which critical back-analyses. Results indicate backfilling feasible with reasonably attainable strengths at most mines. However, mines undertake early testing, carry out ensure placed behaviour consistent analysis assumptions.

Pore Structure Evolution and Its Effect on Strength Development of Sulfate-Containing Cemented Paste Backfill

In this study, the effects of the initial sulfate content on the properties of cemented paste backfill (CPB) made from coarse tailings has been investigated via mercury intrusion porosimetry. The combined effects of the sulfate content and curing time on the total porosity, pore size distribution, and unconfined compressive strength of the produced material were discussed. It was found that the...

Stress Distribution in a Cohesionless Backfill Poured in a Silo

The field of infrastructure rehabilitation and development requires a better understanding of soil-structure interactions. The interaction behaviour between soil and structures has mostly been investigated through theoretical and/or numerical analysis. This paper presents a series of experiments performed on an intermediate-scale physical model made of an instrumented silo. In contrast to most ...

Multiphysics Modeling and Simulation of Strength Development and Distribution in Cemented Tailings Backfill Structures

Cemented paste backfill structures are complex underground cementitious structures. After fresh cemented paste backfill (CPB; a mix of tailings, binder and water) is poured into underground stopes (mined-out voids), its strength which is a key mechanical design criterion of CPB structures, gradually develops with time. The development of CPB strength is governed by the coupled thermo-hydro-mech...

Modeling mechanical response of cemented EPS-backfill

Cemented backfill is one of geomaterials which is used at a high volume to serve a variety of geo-infrastructure systems, e.g., embankments, retaining walls and approach abutments, and involves the solidification of soil or similar fine aggregate through the addition of a controlled amount of cementitious materials, such as Portland cement, fly ash or lime. A certain volume of expanded polystyr...

Strength Characteristics and Failure Mechanism of Cemented Super-Fine Unclassified Tailings Backfill

This experimental study investigates the strength characteristics of cemented super-fine unclassified tailings backfill (CSUTB) and its failure mechanism. Physical and chemical properties of tailings from the Zhongguan Iron Mine (ZGIM) were tested. A series of uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) tests was conducted to determine the relationships between UCS of CSUTB and three factors of cement-...
